How to check if Amex is offering you up to 75,000 points

Amex quietly offers some business cardholders 15,000 points for every employee card they add, up to 5 cards. Here’s how to check if you have it and how not to lose it.

Step 1Check if you’re targeted.

Log in to Amex, then open the link for your card and tap Add Employee Cards.

  • If it says the offer is currently unavailable, you’re not targeted this round.
  • If it lets you continue, that’s a good sign, but it’s not proof yet. Go to Step 2.

Some accounts see a smaller version: 7,000 points per card.

Step 2Confirm it in Amex chat before you spend.

Open chat in the Amex app or website and paste this:

Hi, can you confirm if there’s an employee card bonus offer on my account? If so, which card is it on and how many points per employee card?

Screenshot the offer page and the chat before you add anyone.

Step 3Pick the right card.

Business PlatinumEmployee Business Platinum Card: $400 a year eachEmployee Business Expense Card: $0
Business GoldEmployee Business Gold Card: $95 a year for the first fiveEmployee Business Expense Card: $0
Blue Business PlusNothing to skipEmployee Blue Business Plus Card: $0

The $0 cards still count toward the bonus. Five Platinum employee cards would cost $2,000 a year.

Step 4Hit $4,000 on each card within 6 months.

  • Add every card through the offer page. Cards added the normal way earn nothing.
  • Each card goes to a real person who spends for your business. Amex asks for their Social Security number and date of birth.
  • Gift cards, prepaid cards and person-to-person payments don’t count.
  • Spending on your own card doesn’t count toward an employee card’s $4,000.
  • Don’t return purchases you used to hit $4,000. Amex can take the points back and close your accounts.
  • You’re responsible for every charge on every card.

Step 5Stack it.

If your card is new and you’re still working on its welcome bonus, employee card spending counts toward that too. Same dollars, two bonuses. Points post within 8 to 12 weeks after a card hits $4,000.

The math: 5 cards × 15,000 points = 75,000 points. At The Points Guy’s valuation of 2 cents a point, that’s about $1,500. What you actually get depends on how you redeem.
