Amex Platinum hotel credit (Lodging Credit) not posting

Booked a Fine Hotels + Resorts or Hotel Collection stay and the $300 credit never showed up? These are the rules that trip people up, and what to do.

By Quy Dinh · Checked Oct 25, 2026

How it works

Amex now calls it the $600 Lodging Credit (it used to be the Hotel Credit). You get up to $300 back from January to June and up to $300 from July to December.

It covers prepaid Fine Hotels + Resorts and The Hotel Collection stays, and prepaid Airbnb Luxe homes, booked through Amex Travel and paid with your Platinum card.

There's nothing to enroll in. Amex matches the booking charge and credits the Basic Card Member's account.

The Hotel Collection and Airbnb Luxe need at least two nights in a row. From January 1, 2027, Fine Hotels + Resorts bookings need two nights too.

What it looks like when it works

  • A statement credit for the booking amount, up to $300. Amex says it shows under the booking's merchant name (AMEX FINE HOTELS RES, AMEX HOTEL COLLECTN or LUXE AIRBNB) with 'Amex Hotel Credit' in the description.
  • As the Basic Card Member, you can see how much of the credit you've used in the Benefits tab of your Amex account.

How long it takes

Usually within a few days of the booking charge. Amex says to allow up to 90 days.

Why it didn’t post

1. You picked Pay Later or Pay at Hotel

Only prepaid bookings count: the rate marked Pay Now, paid in full when you book. If your rate allows free cancellation, you can rebook it as Pay Now.

2. The hotel isn't in Fine Hotels + Resorts or The Hotel Collection

Other hotels sold on Amex Travel don't count. Check that the property carries the Fine Hotels + Resorts or Hotel Collection label before you book.

3. The stay is only one night

Hotel Collection and Airbnb Luxe bookings need two nights in a row. From January 1, 2027, so do Fine Hotels + Resorts bookings.

4. You didn't book through Amex Travel

Booking with the hotel itself or another travel site doesn't count, even at a Fine Hotels + Resorts hotel. Airbnb Luxe must be booked on the Amex Travel website or app with your Airbnb account linked, and regular Airbnb homes don't count.

5. This half-year's $300 is already used

The $300 is shared by every card on the account, including additional cards. Check the Benefits tab for earlier bookings this half.

6. The charge landed in the other half of the year

Amex goes by the date the booking is processed, not your travel dates. Bookings must process by June 30 or December 31 at 11:59 PM Central Time; one that processes later counts toward the next half.

7. The card you paid with can't use all three programs

Companion Platinum cards and Employee Business Expense cards only earn it on Hotel Collection and Airbnb Luxe bookings, not Fine Hotels + Resorts. Pay with the Basic card or an Additional Platinum or Employee Business Platinum card.

8. You changed or cancelled the booking

Some changes cancel the booking and make a new one, and a refund can reverse the credit. Check that the booking you kept is prepaid and still qualifies.

What doesn’t count

  • Pay Later or Pay at Hotel bookings
  • Hotels on Amex Travel outside Fine Hotels + Resorts and The Hotel Collection
  • Regular Airbnb homes (only Airbnb Luxe counts)
  • One-night Hotel Collection or Airbnb Luxe stays, and one-night Fine Hotels + Resorts stays from January 1, 2027
  • Bookings made directly with the hotel or on other travel sites
  • Insurance fees, cancellation fees, property fees and interest
  • Anything the hotel charges you itself, such as room service, spa or parking

Still missing? Do this

  1. Open the booking in Amex Travel and check three things: Pay Now, a Fine Hotels + Resorts, Hotel Collection or Airbnb Luxe property, and the two-night rule.
  2. Check the Benefits tab (Basic Card Member) to see how much of this half's $300 is left.
  3. Look for the credit under the booking's own merchant name, not a line named after the benefit.
  4. Give it time: Amex allows up to 90 days after the booking is charged.
  5. Still nothing after 90 days? Call the number on the back of your card or use chat, ask about the $600 Lodging Credit, and give the booking date, amount and itinerary number.

Questions people ask

Do I have to finish the stay before the credit posts?

No. It's based on when the prepaid booking is charged. A booking processed by June 30 counts for January to June even if you travel in the fall.

Can two bookings share the $300?

Yes. The limit is up to $300 per half-year across all eligible bookings on the account, so smaller bookings add up until you reach it.

Does a booking on an additional card count?

Yes, and the credit goes to the Basic Card Member. Additional Platinum and Employee Business Platinum cards count for all three programs; Companion Platinum and Employee Business Expense cards only for Hotel Collection and Airbnb Luxe.

What happens if I cancel?

The credit can be reversed. If a refund leaves the booking under $300 after you got the full $300, Amex may take back the difference.

Check a whole statement at once. Premium Finance, our free app, reads the statement PDF or CSV you download from your bank (on your phone, nothing is uploaded) and shows which credits posted, then reminds you before the rest run out. Open the app or try it with a sample wallet.
