Sapphire Reserve $300 travel credit not showing up

Chase applies the $300 travel credit on its own, with no activation. If a travel purchase didn't get it, one of the reasons below is almost always the cause.

How it works

You get up to $300 a year in statement credits on purchases Chase codes as travel. There's nothing to activate and no special site to book through.

It covers airlines, hotels, motels, timeshares, car rentals, cruise lines, travel agencies, discount travel sites, campgrounds, trains, buses, taxis, ferries, tolls, and parking.

One purchase can use part of it, and the rest stays for later. A purchase over $300 still gets the full $300.

The year follows your account, not the calendar: it runs from your account open date to the first statement after your anniversary, then every 12 billing cycles after that.

What it looks like when it works

  • A separate credit line on your statement that reads "TRAVEL CREDIT $300/YEAR".
  • You get one credit line for each travel purchase it covers, until the $300 is used up. A big purchase can get a partial line if less than its full amount is left.
  • Your Chase account's card benefits page shows how much of the $300 you've used this year.

How long it takes

Chase says the credit should post within 3 business days of the charge posting, but it can take up to 4 weeks. It follows the posted charge, not the pending one.

Why it didn’t post

1. The merchant isn't coded as travel

Chase leaves out some travel-related merchants: tours, excursions, sightseeing, attractions, in-flight and onboard cruise purchases, shops and restaurants inside airports and hotels, RV and boat rentals, and moving trucks. Check how the charge is categorized in your Chase account.

2. You already used the $300 this card year

Check what's left on your card benefits page in your Chase account. Once the $300 is used, travel purchases are charged in full until your next card year starts.

3. Your new card year hasn't started yet

The new $300 starts after the first statement following your account anniversary, not on January 1 and not on the anniversary date itself. The credit has to be available when the purchase is made.

4. The charge is still pending

The credit is matched to the posted charge. Wait until the charge posts, then give it up to 4 weeks.

5. You paid with points or with another card

Only purchases charged to your Sapphire Reserve (or an authorized user's card on the same account) count. A booking paid fully with points has no card charge to credit. If you paid part with points, only the part charged to the card can count.

6. You bought a gift card, or points or miles

Gift card sellers and merchants that sell points or miles don't count as travel, even when what you buy is for a trip.

7. The purchase was refunded or changed

Chase may take back the credit when a travel purchase is returned, canceled or changed. The credit goes back toward your $300 for the next eligible purchase.

What doesn’t count

  • Tours, excursions, sightseeing and tourist attractions
  • In-flight purchases and onboard cruise purchases
  • Shops and restaurants inside airports and hotels
  • RV and boat rentals, and vehicles rented to haul or move things
  • Gift cards, and purchases of points or miles
  • Real estate agents and schools that arrange travel
  • Bookings paid fully with points

Still missing? Do this

  1. Make sure the charge has posted, not just shown as pending.
  2. Check the charge's category in your Chase account. If it isn't travel, the credit won't apply.
  3. Check your card benefits page to see how much of the $300 is left and when your card year started.
  4. Wait up to 4 weeks after the charge posts.
  5. Still nothing? Call the number on the back of your card or message Chase, name the $300 Annual Travel Credit, and give the date and amount of the charge.

Questions people ask

Do I need to activate the travel credit?

No. Chase applies it automatically to purchases coded as travel.

Why didn't I earn points on that flight?

The part of a purchase covered by the $300 credit earns no points. Points start once the credit is used up.

Does it stack with The Edit credit on a Chase Travel hotel stay?

Yes. Chase says the $300 travel credit applies to eligible travel, including stays with The Edit, no matter which other credits you use on the same booking.

Do authorized user purchases count?

Yes. Travel purchases made by you or an authorized user on the account count toward the same $300.

Check a whole statement at once. Premium Finance, our free app, reads the statement PDF or CSV you download from your bank (on your phone, nothing is uploaded) and shows which credits posted, then reminds you before the rest run out. Open the app or try it with a sample wallet.
