Global Entry or TSA PreCheck credit not showing up

Paid the Global Entry or TSA PreCheck fee and your card hasn't paid you back? Here's how the credit works at each bank and why it gets missed.

By Quy Dinh · Checked Oct 25, 2026

How it works

Many travel cards pay back the application fee for Global Entry ($120) or TSA PreCheck (up to $85, depending on the enrollment provider) once every four years, as a statement credit.

There's nothing to enroll in. You apply with CBP (Global Entry) or an official PreCheck provider (IDEMIA, Telos or CLEAR), pay the fee with the card, and the bank credits it.

Most banks credit whichever program you pay for first, approved or not. Global Entry includes TSA PreCheck, so you only need one.

Both memberships last five years and the credit comes back every four, so it's usually available again when it's time to renew.

What it looks like when it works

  • A charge from CBP's Trusted Traveler Programs (Global Entry) or from IDEMIA, Telos or CLEAR (PreCheck), then a statement credit for the same amount, up to your card's limit.
  • Banks don't publish the wording of the credit line and it varies, so look for a credit matching the fee a few days to two statements after the charge.

How long it takes

Depends on the bank. Amex: usually a few days, up to 6-8 weeks. Chase, Citi, Capital One and U.S. Bank: within 1-2 billing cycles. Wells Fargo: within 60 days. Robinhood: up to 8 weeks. Ritz-Carlton card: 6-8 weeks.

Why it didn’t post

1. You paid an application-help website

Sites that file your application for an extra fee aren't the government or an official provider, and banks don't credit them. Apply with CBP's Trusted Traveler Programs for Global Entry, or with IDEMIA, Telos or CLEAR for PreCheck.

2. The credit was already used in the last four years

Banks credit the first eligible fee in each four-year window, including one you paid for someone else or an earlier PreCheck fee. Most count one credit per account; Amex's Platinum and Centurion cards give each card on the account its own.

3. You paid with PayPal or a digital wallet

Capital One says fees paid with PayPal don't count, and Amex may not credit electronic wallet payments. Enter the card number itself when you pay.

4. The program isn't covered

NEXUS only counts on Chase cards. SENTRI, FAST and other programs don't count anywhere, and the Ritz-Carlton card covers Global Entry only.

5. The fee went on another card

The fee has to be charged to the card with the credit (or an authorized user's card on that account, where the bank allows it). On Amex Platinum and Centurion cards, it must go on the same card that's getting the credit.

6. There was no fee to pay back

Children under 18 applying with a parent pay no Global Entry fee, and PreCheck can come free with a CLEAR+ membership, so there's nothing to credit.

7. It posted, but for less than the fee

Some cards cap it lower: Bank of America Premium Rewards and U.S. Bank Altitude Connect pay up to $100, and Amex pays up to $85 for PreCheck. The rest is yours to pay.

What doesn’t count

  • Fees paid to application-help services or travel agencies
  • NEXUS (except on Chase cards), SENTRI, FAST and other trusted traveler programs
  • CLEAR+ memberships (CLEAR isn't a trusted traveler program)
  • Fees paid with PayPal (Capital One says so; other banks may not credit wallets either)
  • A second program's fee within the same four-year window

Still missing? Do this

  1. Find the fee on your statement and check it was charged to the card that has the credit.
  2. Check you paid CBP directly (Global Entry) or IDEMIA, Telos or CLEAR (PreCheck), not a third-party service.
  3. Think back four years: did this card or account already get a Global Entry or PreCheck credit, maybe for a family member?
  4. Wait out your bank's posting time.
  5. Then chat with the bank or call the number on the card, and ask for the Global Entry/TSA PreCheck application fee credit with the charge date and amount.

Questions people ask

Can I pay for my spouse or a friend?

The banks' terms tie the credit to a fee charged to your card, not to whose application it is. Paying someone else's fee uses your card's credit for the next four years.

Do I get it if my application is denied?

Yes at Amex, Citi and Wells Fargo, which say so in their terms. The government fee isn't refunded if you're denied.

Global Entry or PreCheck?

If you travel abroad, Global Entry: it includes PreCheck, and most of these cards pay up to $120, which covers its fee.

Does a renewal fee count?

Wells Fargo and some Barclays cards say renewal fees count. Other banks' terms just say 'application fee', so ask your bank if you're unsure.

Check a whole statement at once. Premium Finance, our free app, reads the statement PDF or CSV you download from your bank (on your phone, nothing is uploaded) and shows which credits posted, then reminds you before the rest run out. Open the app or try it with a sample wallet.
