Credit card changes: what’s new and what’s coming

Banks change credits, earning rates and rules all the time. These are the changes that matter, newest first, and the ones already announced.

By Quy Dinh · Updated Oct 24, 2026

Every card page on this site is checked against the bank’s own site. When something changes, it’s fixed there and listed here, with a link to the card. Our free app, Premium Finance, updates its credits the same way.

Coming up

  • January 1, 2027, Amex Platinum and Business Platinum: Fine Hotels + Resorts stays need at least 2 nights to count for the $600 hotel credit. The Hotel Collection already does.
  • January 1, 2027, Bilt Palladium and Obsidian: Bilt points go to World of Hyatt at 4:3 instead of 1:1.
  • February 1, 2027, Amex Platinum and Gold cards: Pay Over Time can no longer be switched off; eligible charges go into it automatically.
  • February 17, 2027, Amex Business Gold and Business Platinum: 4x on advertising only counts with Meta, Google, Amazon, Microsoft, GoDaddy and Yelp, and the wireless and shipping categories only with the companies Amex names.

  • Sapphire Reserve: the $5 monthly DoorDash restaurant promo became $15 off any DoorDash order each month, next to the two $10 grocery and retail promos.
  • Sapphire Preferred and Ink Business Preferred: World of Hyatt transfers dropped from 1:1 to 4:3. The Sapphire Reserve stays at 1:1.
  • Amex Platinum cards: Lufthansa lounge access ended on October 1.
  • Amex Business Gold: the monthly flexible business credit now covers UPS instead of FedEx, along with Grubhub and office supply stores.
  • Amex Gold: the limited-time $96 Uber One credit ends October 30.
  • Freedom Unlimited: DashPass and the quarterly DoorDash credit now run through December 31, 2029.

September 2026

  • Freedom cards: Points Boost came to the Freedom cards, with up to 10% more for points used on select Chase Travel hotels. The Freedom Flex also dropped its foreign transaction fee; the Freedom Unlimited still charges 3%.
  • Amex cards with a Resy credit: purchases made directly on Tock now count too.
  • Citi Strata Premier and Strata Elite: Citi’s welcome bonus terms now exclude anyone who currently has or previously had the card (for the Strata Premier, also the Citi Premier), instead of a 48-month window.

Earlier in 2026

  • Sapphire Preferred (June): new 3x categories (gas and EV charging, vacation homes, online groceries), the Chase Travel hotel credit doubled to $100, and a new Global Entry or TSA PreCheck credit. The 10% anniversary points bonus ended.
  • Amex Gold (April): prepaid hotels through Amex Travel went from 2x to 5x.
  • Venture X (February): authorized users lost free lounge access (now $125 a year each), and guests at Capital One Lounges cost $45.
