Amex Gold dining credit not posting

The Gold's up to $10 a month only covers five partners, paid directly at U.S. locations. Here's why yours didn't post and how to fix it.

How it works

Enroll first. Then the Gold pays back up to $10 a month at Grubhub (including Seamless), Buffalo Wild Wings, Five Guys, The Cheesecake Factory and Wonder.

Purchases must be from U.S. locations, in person or online. It's a statement credit after the charge, and one credit is given per transaction.

The $10 resets each calendar month and doesn't roll over. Charges on additional cards count toward the same $10.

What it looks like when it works

  • The partner's charge, then a separate statement credit from Amex for up to $10.

How long it takes

Usually within a few days of the charge. Amex allows up to 8 weeks.

Why it didn’t post

1. You haven't enrolled

Enrollment is required. Enroll in the Benefits section of your Amex account or by phone.

2. You ordered through another app

The purchase must be made directly with the partner. Orders through a delivery app that isn't the partner itself don't count. Orders on Grubhub or Seamless do.

3. You paid with a digital wallet

Amex's terms say that, in most cases, purchases made with an electronic wallet or through a third party such as an app store may not be credited. Pay with the card itself.

4. The location is inside another business

A partner restaurant inside an airport, hotel or department store may not be recognized.

5. It wasn't a dining purchase

Gift cards and merchandise from the partners don't count.

6. Your $10 for the month is used

The limit is $10 per account each month, including purchases on additional cards.

7. Your Gold isn't an eligible version

Traditional, Senior and Classic Gold cards don't get this credit.

8. The charge was dated in the next month

Amex uses the date the merchant processes the charge. A purchase on the last day of a month can count toward the next month.

What doesn’t count

  • Gift cards from the partners
  • Merchandise and other non-dining purchases
  • Orders placed through apps other than the partner's own
  • Partner locations inside airports, hotels or department stores (often not recognized)
  • Locations outside the U.S.

Still missing? Do this

  1. Check the Benefits section of your Amex account to confirm you're enrolled.
  2. Check that the charge is from one of the five partners, made directly with them, at a U.S. location.
  3. Wait a few days. Amex allows up to 8 weeks.
  4. If nothing after 8 weeks, call the number on the back of your card or chat with Amex. Name the Dining Credit and give the charge date and amount.

The credit is up to $10 a month, and only one credit is given per transaction.

Check a whole statement at once. Premium Finance, our free app, reads the statement PDF or CSV you download from your bank (on your phone, nothing is uploaded) and shows which credits posted, then reminds you before the rest run out. Open the app or try it with a sample wallet.
